Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was only five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended at the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she decided she wanted to become an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford in which she learned singing and acting. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in numerous Stagecoach Productions as well as school plays. In 1999 casting began with the casting process for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint of their auditions after eight. They were selected as three of the leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. The film set records with regards to opening day and weekend sales, and it was the most successful 2001 film. Critics have praised both the film and the performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a frequently read British publication, gave Emma high marks for her performance. Later Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her role in the film and was awarded her the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film.
